“Characteristics of a Healthy Relationship
With My Food”

Exercise temperance or self-control
over my appetite.

The gratification of appetite has been the ruin of man and nations. (1 Cor 9:24-27) Examples include Adam and Eve, the antediluvians and Esau.

When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. (Proverbs 23:1-2)

As a people, with all our profession of health reform, the indulgence of appetite is the greatest cause of mental and physical debility and lies at the foundation of a large share of the feebleness which is apparent everywhere. (Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 135)

The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral power to gain victory over every other temptation of Satan… And as we near the close of time, Satan’s temptation to indulge appetite will be more powerful and more difficult to overcome (Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 59)

Note: Daniel and his three friends and Jesus demonstrate that we can control appetite (Daniel 1:8; Matt 4:1-4)

My relationship with God, self and others
influence my relationship with food.

Food can be used to fulfil the vacuum created by empty relationships with God, self and others.

Certain factors influence my choice of
food and drink.

Is it my cultural upbringing--home and society; advertising or are it conscious educated choices?

I am the well or ill base of my food choices.

Most of our modern diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes obesity are related to our relationships with food

Eat a plant-based diet. God’s original diet

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you, it shall be for meat. Genesis 1:29

Eat and drink to bring glory to God.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Feed the hungry

Sed non sapien eu mauris rhoncus tristique gravida at massa. Aliquam massa quam, egestas suscipit

God promises to give me the power to make
healthy choices daily.

Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life so that you and your descendants might live! (Deuteronomy 30:19-20, Dan 1:8; Matt 4:4).

Application :

Dear God,

Help me to break my unhealthy relationship with food and give me control over my appetite. Help me to look to Jesus for strength. He overcame the power of appetite on my behalf.
